Our Riders Out & About - updated 31/7/2010

Our Riders out and about ... 2010, 2009

Congratulations to all our riders who are out competing.

Not everyone can place at every event, thanks to all those of you who send in news of your wins, placings and personal bests. If your name is not here (or some details are wrong), please don't be shy just send your details to Wendy. Let us know the  type of event you entered, the date, horse you were riding, and what class you rode in. AND LOTS OF PHOTOS! For personal bests - tell us what you were particularly pleased to have done on the day!

Glenbrae Interschool Jumping Day 21st July

Allie Brooks, Millie Romei, Maddie Henchley and Taylah O’Neill all went to Glenbrae interschool Jumping day. I’m sure they all had fun with many clear rounds between them. Millie was the star on the day with a 1st in AM7, a 2nd in the top score and a 5th in the equitation - well done to Millie and the other riders.

Langwarrin PC Horse Trials July 18
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Sara-Jane Vaughan who placed 1st in her grade 3 section at Langwarrin PC Horse Trials. The competition was tough on the day, with Sara-Jane and two other riders in the section coming equal first after dressage, but she and Flynn decided to ensure there would be no doubt by going clear in BOTH  XC & SJ (the only combination in the section to do so), to win the coveted rug. Well done to them both ..

 Wyena Combined Training June 27

Georgia Goss competed at Wyena CT. She did the dressage only section riding two tests 5B and 5C. Georgia came 6th overall missing out on 5th by 1 point but was eliminated because her whip had a "lash" not a "flap" on it even though it was the correct length (something for other riders to look out for!). Nevertheless, she should be proud of her riding.

Mooroolbark PC Derby June 14th
Congratulations to our riders who placed at our Derby …
Derby Grade 2 1st place – Chelsea Winter, 2nd Place Lauren Howes
Grade 3 2nd place Justine Russell, 4th place Tessa Whitfort,
Grade 4 1st place Millie Romei,
Grade 5 1st place Taylah O’Neill, 4th place Alexandra Brooks
Showjumping B Grade, 1st place Justine Russell
C Grade 1st place Tessa Whitfort, 2nd place Lauren Howes
D Grade 3rd place Amy Tucker

Monash PC Combined Training
Sarah-Jane Vaughan placed 5th in the grade 3 section of the Monash PC Combined Training Day.

NMZ Teams Horse Trials - 16/5/10
This year we had a total of ten riders competing at the Zone Horse Trials at Yeringberg. We fielded two Mooroolbark teams, and had a number of riders competing in composite teams with riders from other clubs. Whilst our teams did not place this year, we heard many riders happy with their results, and describing that the day was a "personal best" for them. This puts us in a good position for this event next year, with ever more riders coming through to be able to compete in the teams.

Competing on the day were Lauren Howes, Justine Russell, Tessa Whitfort, Jill Brooks, Amy Tucker, Elisha Laukart, Tahlia Bourke, Millie Romei, Jessica Kanen and Elissa Robbins. Results are available from the NMZ Web Site (see link below).

Upper Yarra Combined Training & Dressage Day - 9/5/10
Tessa Whitfort competed with Andy at the Upper Yarra Combined Training & Dressage Day placing 2nd in the Grade 3 Combined Training and WINNING the Grade 3 Dressage. Well done to you both.

Tintern Interschool Horse Trials 8&9/5/10
A number of Mooroolbark riders competed for their respective schools at the Tintern HT's. It was a very competitive field, with 300+ riders in total. Competing on the day were Elisha Laukart (with an excellent dressage score in Grade 3), Sara-Jane Vaughan (9th in Grade 3), Millie Romei (excellent dressage score in Grade 4), Kate Moore (excellent dressage score in Grade 5),  Allie Brooks (8th in Grade 5)

NMZ Games Competition- 24/4/10
This year we entered one games team in the North Metro Zone competition at Wesburn.
There was stiff competition from "serious" games clubs, but Mooroolbark's team held their heads high and HAD FUN!! As these photos will attest, lots of smiles, lots of cheering and a great sense of fun.
Competing on the day were Lauren Howes, Tessa Whitfort, Jill Brooks, Kate Moore, Genevieve Savini, Alex Brooks, and Amy Moore

Eltham Short Course Competition - 18/4/10
Millie Romei went to the Eltham Short-Course competition on Sunday and placed equal 1st in Grade 4 Dressage - well done! They rode very well in the cross-country, but were eliminated at the water jump towards the end of the course (along with plenty of other competitors).

North Metro Zone - Yeringberg Horse Trials 11/4/2010
Yeringberg Horse Trials went well with Elisha, Lauren, Justine, and Tessa and Sara-Jane competing. Congratulations to Lauren who placed 3rd in Grade 2, Tessa placed 9th in Grade 3, and Sara-Jane who placed 13th on her new horse in Intro 2 - great result for their first comp together at this level. Full results are available from the link below.

Bacchus Marsh PC Horse Trials 21/3/2010
Lauren Howes placed 7th at Bacchus Marsh HT's on March 21

Glenbrae Interschool Short Course Eventing Competition
Congratulations to all our riders who competed on March 17th at this competition … we haven’t heard individual results as yet, but it’s great to see so many of our riders out at this event …  Maddie Scott, Madi Henchley, Bianca Tropeano, Brooke Dalsanto, Kate Moore, Allie Brooks, Laura Dalsanto and Georgia Goss

Ivanhoe Grammar Interschool Competition
Sara-Jane Vaughan went to Ivanhoe Grammar’s Interschool on Flynn, and competed Novice dressage where she came 9th in the first test and 2nd in the 2nd test - not bad for only having him 2 weeks. The show jumping was ok although she was knocked out in the 2nd round.
Elisha Laukart was also there and did 2 very nice dressage tests placing in the 2nd test. She got into the jump off for Show jumping, after jumping 2 very good rounds on Roly. The hard work is paying off - definitely the quiet achievers - they were working very well together, lovely to see!

Werribee APOB
Tess Whitfort went to the APOB pony dressage at Werribee and did 2 Prelim and a Novice test. She placed 6th in the Novice and 7th in a Prelim.

Seville PC Horse Trials

Congratulations Lauren Howes who placed FIRST in Grade 2 at the Seville Pony Club Horse Trials on February 28. Also competing on the day, Sara-Jane Vaughan placed 6th after dressage, and whilst not placing overall, did well to complete the course on a day when 7 riders were eliminated in the xc or sj in her Grade 3A section

Ringwood PC Showjumping Day
Tessa Whitfort, Amy & Kate Moore, and Millei Romei competed at the Ringwood Showjumping Day on 28th Feb. Andy and Tessa came 3rd in 90cm AM7 & the Forestway Pony Jump.

Mooroolbark PC Showjumping Day 21/2/10
It was great to see Mooroolbark riders giving it their best on the 21st Feb at our own SJ Day. Whilst not everyone placed, we heard lots of comments from riders satisfied that they had improved their performances with their horses and ponies. Special mention of some great performances from Justine and Tetley 1st in B Grade, Lauren and Kel 1st in B Grade, Sarah-Jane and Chester 2nd in C Grade (in their first C Grade competition!). In D Grade Amy & Jackson placed 1st. Amongst our E Grade combinations, Maddy & Juddy placed 5th, Alley & Abbey equal 6th, and Tahlia & Huster equal 6th, and F Grade Genevieve & Dolby placed 4th.

State Dressage & Showjumping 14/2/10
Justine Russell (B Grade Showjumping) and Sara-Jane Vaughan (Grade 3 Dressage), represented the North Metro zone at the Feb 14 State Dressage & Showjumping Competition, held in Sale. Both riders competed well, with individual rankings around midfield.
Well done to them Justine & Sara-Jane.

Phoenix Adult Riders Dressage Day - 26/1/10
Tessa Whitfort competed with Andy at the Phoenix Adult Riders Dressage day, in level 4 and came FIRST ... well done to them both.

Cockatoo Pony Club Jump Trials - January 2010

Three of our riders competed at one of the first events for the year at Wandin Park. The event was well attended and Tahlia Bourke, Tessa Whitfort, and Jessica Kanen enjoyed the day.

NMZ State Qualifiers - Dressage & Showjumping - 13/12/09
Mooroolbark were represented by the following riders at the state qualifiers run by the Northern Metro Zone:
Lauren Howes, Justine Russell, Tessa Whitfort, Jackie Wright, Sara-Jane Vaughan, Chelsea Winter.

Justine and Tetley qualified in third place in B Grade Showjumping and will be going to the State Competition in Sale in Feb 2010. CONGRATULATIONS

Sara-Jane and Chester   placed 4th in Grade 3 Dressage, and that makes them the first emergency with a chance to be called for State.

Well done to all our riders. Results will be published on the NMZ web site (see link below).

.... BREAKING NEWS ... Sara-Jane has been advised that she is now eligible to attend the state competition.

Good luck to both Sara-Jane and Justine for this event on February 14.

Horseland EFA Wandin Park ODE – 28/11/09
Both riders attending this event (in training level 3 ) were pleased with their results, and achieved what they set out to do - Sara-Jane Vaughan achieved her goal of getting Chester around the XC course with a feeling of calm control, they placed in the dressage phase, and finished the day in 12th spot.. Jackie Wright was happy with Wodney's work, and his calm pace around the XC. They were eliminated towards the end at the "christmas jump" (see the photo) which pulled up a number of combinations, but had a great day nonetheless.

Lilydale Show – 21/11/09

Mooroolbark had great representation by seven riders at the Lilydale Show on Saturday November 21. Lauren Howes, Justine Russell, Tessa Whitfort, Jackie Wright, Amy Tucker, Emily Savini, Georgia Goss, Genevieve Savini all came home with at least one ribbon. An interesting day, with some horses finding the noise, the rides and the small warm up areas just a bit too much! But the weather very kindly held out (although not for those going on the Sunday).

We didn’t get all the results written down (there were almost too many to keep track of), and we apologise to those we've missed (put your details in the Out & About book, or email them through) but here are some of the highlights …

HRCAV ring Tessa placed first in led (height class) and 4th in their level rider class.
Open ring For their height classes, Justine & Jackie each placed 2nd in Open Hack and Lauren 2nd in Open Galloway. In the pony class, Georgia placed 3rd and Amy 4th in their height classes. In the exhibit class, Lauren placed 2nd in Galloway and Jackie 3rd in Hack. In led, for her age group, Georgia placed 2nd.
In their rider class, Georgia & Jackie placed 2nd in their age group, and Jackie was reserve champion.
And in Local rider, Georgia placed 2nd, and Jackie & Amy placed equal 4th for their age groups.

In the pony club ring In the best presented class, for their age groups, Jackie placed 2nd, Amy & Tessa 3rd, Lauren & Justine 4th. And the led class (for their age group), Jackie placed 1st, Lauren 2nd, Justine 3rd and Amy 4th. In the Rider class, Justine placed 1st, Jackie 2nd, Lauren 3rd and Amy 4th in their age groups, with Justine also achieving Champion. In the PC Mount class, Tessa placed 2nd (in their height). And for Pleasure Mount, Amy placed 1st in their height class.

Justine had a good day in the showjumping, with a 4th in the 85 cm height. She continued on to some great rounds at the higher jumps, although we don’t hear the final results.

Georgia’s results warrant a special mention – 3 x 2nd places, 1 x 3rd and 1 x 4th – all on her new pony Tory at their first competition together – well done!

Lilydale PC Horse Trials – 25/10/09

Seven of our riders competed on a windy Sunday at Lilydale Horse Trials. The event was well represented, with nearly 200 riders competing in grades 2 through 5. Only 3 of the 17 grade 2 riders went clear on the cross country, 7 were elimnated, with only 7 being eligible to go on to ride the show jumping.

Jackie Wright competed her first ever grade 2 competition with fantastic results. She and Skite placed first after dressage, and FIRST overall and the smile on their faces told it all!

Taylah O’Neill was also grinning with delight that she and Beau had made it around the grade 5 XC with no refusals in their first HT competition together.  We haven’t heard whether they placed, but the day sounds to have achieved what they set out to do.

Super Showjumping Series

Chelsea Winter had success in the Super Showjumping Series that was held over 4 weekends and at 4 different Pony Clubs in the NMZ - she came 3rd overall for the series.  Which included three 1st placings and one 2nd placing out of the 4 Championship rounds. A 5th and 4th in Equitation and a 3rd,  4th and 6th in Take Your Own Line for the series.

Glenbrae Interschool Gymkhana – 21/10/09

Jackie Wright represented her school at the Gymkhana and she and Wodney had a great day.  They placed 1st in Best Presented, Best Rider and Led, and 5th in Best Mount for Eventing and Pleasure Mount, giving them the points they needed to place 1st overall.

Oaklands Pony Club Horse Trials – 18/10/09

Lauren Howes and Chelsea Winter had a good weekend at Oaklands.

Ask Lauren Howes to show you the prize she received for WINNING the Grade 2 section … you will all be jealous ! Congratulations to you and Kal on your ongoing success.

Chelsea Winter placed 4th in the grade 2 section – a particularly strong effort after coming 24th after dressage, 6th after Cross Country and then on to 4th after the SJ phase.

At this event, there were 11 riders eliminated at cross country and 5 eliminated at Show jumping. Chelsea and Lauren were the only Grade 2 riders to go clear in both Cross Country and Show jumping.

Doongala Combined Training and Dressage Day – 18/10/09

A number of our riders competed at the Doongala CT & Dressage Day. Millie Romei came 2nd and Amy Tucker 3rd in the Grade 4 CT. Well done girls

Intershool Showjumping Competition (Adam Wootten) – 18/9/09

Maddie Scott had a great day at the (Adam Wootten) Interschool Showjumping Competition on September 18. She and Juddy placed 2nd in AM7 and 10th overall. Well done to them both!

2010 Games Team

This year we entered one games team in the North Metro Zone competition at Wesburn.
There was stiff competition from "serious" games clubs, but Mooroolbark's team held their heads high and HAD FUN!! As these photos will attest, lots of smiles, lots of cheering and a great sense of fun.

Competing on the day were Lauren Howes, Tessa Whitfort, Jill Brooks, Kate Moore, Genevieve Savini, Alex Brooks, and Amy Moore

The riders worked hard to prepare and train, and a big thanks goes to the parents who helped, both with training and with duties at the competition.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Team Manager Briallen Pepper who gave up her time to help train the team in the lead-up, and manage on the day.

Thanks to the Moore family for passing on copies of their photos from the day.

Well done to all our riders - whether we win or lose, the team work has been great to watch and a credit to you all.

January 2010 - Beach Ride

January 2010 - Beach Ride

The beach ride was lovely, much nicer weather and also much busier than last year.  Earliest arrivers got the best parks but people kept showing up till 8.30ish and there were a few floats parked out on the road.  All types of horses and ponies on the beach but enough room for all. we had 9 riders in all, Tessa, Lauren, Amy and Kate Moore, Chelsea and Michelle, Amy Tucker and Millie Romei. A great time was had by everyone, and some of us got very wet! After the horses worked out that the waves actually weren't going to eat them they seemed to enjoy the water - especially Remy! the weather was perfect and the water was warm which made the swimming more appealing. we then had a lovely breakfast and were home before the rest of the family was out of bed.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Sue Tucker for organising the day, collecting the permit etc.

Cheers
Lindy and Tessa

A Tribute to Skite's Best

In Memory of Skite’s Best
August 24 1988 To December 4, 2009
Dam - Carmeldi’s Best
Sire - Bit of a Skite

The pain is raw and the memory is vivid, but we want to honour the memory of our Skity, who we lost in a tragic accident on December 4.

Skite’s Best started his career as a potential racehorse, and although that career did not prove to be an auspicious one, his later retraining as an eventer proved to be a different story.
We know that two of his previous owners, Sally Hudson and Bronwyn Potton, spent numerous years of success, challenge and enjoyment.

Bronwyn was one of Sally’s students, and with Skite moved up the pony club ranks to achieve success in eventing at grade 1. They also successfully tried their hand at many other types of events, including games and polocrosse. At 18 years of age, Skite’s human family knew that he was ready to retire from grade 1, although we suspect he wouldn’t have agreed - some days, he still acted like the teenager he believed he was

Jackie (fortunate to then be one of Bronwyn’s students) and Skite started working together in 2007 at grade 4 pony club, and their first year together was a time of learning for her, with Skite providing just the right amount of challenge for her to develop and improve. With a rider prepared to exercise him every day, and a life filled with trail rides, pony club, beach rides, and a holiday in Gippsland, Skite and Jackie learned to get his balance of work and rest just right, culminating in a wonderful 2009 for them both.
In contrast to their first year together, when Skite tested Jackie’s skills, the two of them became a beautiful team, with Skite the comfortable, trusted gentleman who could be relied upon to be the calm ride she needed on the days when her new thoroughbred Wodney had taken over the role of providing the challenge. Skite was the one that Jackie took on trail rides when other riders needed a calm horse in the lead. But the spark of the racehorse was still in his eyes when a canter up the trail made him believe that a race was on.

We smile when we think of Skity in the paddock – falling in love with at least one of whichever mare might be in the next paddock alongside. And stressing as if his world would end when the other horses went for a ride without him.

Skite and Jackie had a fantastic time together, and he did so much for each and every one of his riders. We will hold onto those precious memories when the sadness threatens to overwhelm us.

Thank you Skite.

Lilydale Pony Club Horse Trials, 25 October 2009

Jackie and Skite competed their first ever grade 2 competition together in October. The smiles on both their faces at the end of the cross country phase said it all. She and Skite placed first after dressage, and first overall.

State Flat Team of Four Ride  13 June, 2009

Skite and Jackie joined three other Mooroolbark horse and rider combinations to have a go at the team of four ride competition in NMZ Zone. They achieved a very respectable 4th place, and were surprised to find themselves billeted to compete at the state competition at Werribee.
Not only did they go to State – they won that competition.
